Help change a life
By supporting the 2024 We Are All George Heriot campaign, you will be helping us to extend our Founder's vision of enabling the transformative power of education.
An education at George Heriot's School is like no other. As Scotland's leading independent school, we grow thinkers, children who learn how to ask questions, to develop curiosity, to think around problems and ultimately, to become future contributors to society.
The School's diverse pupil intake represents all levels of society. Each year, the School spends approximately £1.5 million on providing support to children in need. In the 2023-24 Session, 113 pupils have benefitted from financial support at Heriot's, with either a full or part-funded education.
The We are all George Heriot campaign seeks to fund new bursary places at Heriot's for six years.
If a pupil has been offered a place based on their performance in annual Assessments and they make a Bursary application, their case is measured against a published household income threshold as well as the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD). SIMD is a relative measure of deprivation across 6,976 data zones. SIMD looks at the extent to which a data zone is deprived across seven domains: income, employment, education, health, access to services, crime and housing.
In reviewing these criteria, the School awards financial assistance to promising applicants where financial need is clearly demonstrated.
